Terpsichorean Dance Company Constitution
Article I. Name
The name of this organization is The Terpsichorean Dance Company at State University College at Oneonta
Article II. Purpose
It shall be the purpose of this organization to promote the interest of the Fine Art of Dance on the campus and in the community. Activities include public dance performances and sponsorship of visiting professional dance instructors and/or performers for campus workÂshops.
Article III. Membership
1) All full and part time students of the State University College at Oneonta who have paid their required Student Activity Fee may become members.
2) Membership can be achieved by weekly attendance at dance club meetings.
3) To be considered an active member of the Terpsichorean Dance Company and be eligible to vote in any elections, you cannot miss more than three (3) of the club meetings. New membership may be accepted at the beginning of each semester.
4) Faculty and staff of the State University College at Oneonta are invited to take an active part in the club as advisors and participants, but they shall not be considered active members of the club.
Article IV. Choreographing
1) Any member may choreograph a dance.
2) Preference for choice of music and choice of studio hours will be decided by seniority.
3) Any choreographer may choreograph up to two dances
4) Choreographers are not limited to one style of dance and there is no penalty for repeating a style
5) If a member chooses to choreograph 2 dances, both must be a mix of one of the below options, with no redundancy in co-choreographer:
- Solo and Solo
- Solo and Collaboration
- Collaboration and Collaboration
Article V. Judging and Auditions
1) It is the responsibility of each choreographer to hold auditions for their dance and to select their dancers, tryouts are optional. If a choreographer chooses to hold a closed audition, it must be stated at the choreographer/dancer meeting.
2) The judges will score each dance from the following criteria: Use of formations, originality, creativity, execution, and use of levels and floor space.
3) Judges are also required to submit along with their scores comments pertaining to each dance. These comments refer to items concerning: Performance, turns, energy, technical aspects of the dance and future potential.
4) The judges are the executive board. The executive board decides, in the best interest of the show, which dances are suitable and where they will be placed in the show.
Article VI. Officers
1) The officers shall include a President, a Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Publicist. A faculty advisor shall be elected by the executive board.
2) The duties of the officers shall be listed below:
a. The President shall preside over meetings, coordinate the activities, choreographing and teaching of various dances and provide general leadership for the organization. She/he shall sign on behalf of the club in all non-fiscal and fiscal matters when needed.
b. The Vice-President shall serve in the absence of the President, and assist the President in his/her duties. They will also manage all technical aspects of the show.
c. The Secretary shall be responsible for the "history" and file of Concert Club Programs: dates, music, choreography, and notes. The Secretary shall keep records of the organization. These records shall include minutes of business meetings. The Secretary shall be responsible for carrying on all correspondence for the organization as directed by the PresÂident including programs.
d. The Treasurer shall handle the financial affairs of the organization. She/he shall report all busÂiness transactions at business meetings. She/he shall work with the executive board in the preparation of the annual budget, shall co-approve all requisitions for funds, and sign on behalf of the club in all fiscal matters. The Treasurer will also act as the Head of Marketing and will oversee and organize all fundraisers done by the company. As well, manage the house during each show.
e. The Publicist will be responsible for advertisements, designs, and presiding over Publicity Committee meetings.
3) The election of officers shall take place from April 15 to May 15 , at a regular meeting of the organization. All terms of office shall begin in the succeeding semester and run until the next election. Officers may succeed themselves in office.
4) If a vacancy occurs in one of the above offices, a special election shall occur.
5) If an officer fails to fulfill the duties of the office, he/she may be recalled by a 2/3 vote of the membership of the club. The vacancy will be filled by another election held within two weeks time.
6) At the time of election of officers, nominations will be held and open to all active members. Officers shall be elected by a majority vote of the membership.
6 ) Club members who become inactive due to academic conflicts (i.e. study abroad, student teaching) may petition the e-board to waive the active member requirement for e-board eligibility. Petitions must be received no later than one (1) week prior to elections.
7) It shall be the duty of the faculty advisor to give council to the organization. He/she may not be authorized by the executive board to act on behalf of the organization.
Article VII. Meetings
1) Regular attendance is required when the club is preparing for a show. Regular time(s), day(s), and place(s) shall be selected by the executive board to act on behalf of the organization.
Article VIII. Executive Board
1) The executive board is made up of the officers of the organization as named in article VI of this constitution. This group is authorized to carry on the business of the organization. They will carry on business between regular or special meetings.
Article IX. Constitutional Amendments
1) The Terpsichorean Dance Company Constitution may be amended as deemed necessary by a 2/3 vote of the club membership, and approval of the Student Association Senate.
Article X. Miscellaneous Procedures
1) Any rule not covered in this constitution shall be determined by using Robert's Rules of Order.
Article XI. A majority vote of voting members is required to recall any officer.
Article XII. If the club should dissolve while there is still money in the budget, the money is to be returned to the Student Association Treasury.
Article XIII. Advisor
1) The advisor shall be a faculty/staff member of the State University of New York College at Oneonta and shall not vote in club issues. She/he shall co-approve all requisitions for funds, and sign on behalf of the club in all non-fiscal and fiscal matters.
